[Review] Forza Horizon 6

Hey guys, let’s talk about the newest game in one of my favorite gaming franchises, Forza Horizon 6, after MANY MANY years we and by we I mean the fans, finally got the setting we have been dreaming of, JAPAN, but before we get into all of that some history! On October 23, 2012 the world of arcade racers changed and honestly even I didn’t know just how much, years of playing Need for Speed, Ridge Racer and Crus’n USA had made me enjoy this style of game for year but I would have never guessed that this new arcade racer from a sim racing company would not only grab me but pull me along for more then a decade. Starting off in Colorado for Horizon then going to France and Italy for Horizon 2 then off to Australia for Horizon 3 which was my favorite before Japan, then back to Europe to Great Britain for Horizon 4, Mexico for Horizon 5 which I spent more time than any games I have ever played and now to Japan which has been eating up my free time in the best of ways. Developed by Playground Games in partnership with Forza Motorsports developer Turn 10 and Published by Microsoft, Forza Horizon 6 released May 19, 2026 and I have as of writing put in just under 70 hours.

So let’s talk about graphics, I am currently playing on PC with a 5070 and the game runs smooth at 100fps with little to no issues and looks…. well stunning, there is nothing like loading into the game at “my house” that loads in with a view of Mt Fuji in front of me then looking to the side the skyline of Tokyo that I have taken 100s of photos of because its just so pretty. The mix of city and county is well balanced and fun to drive in with plenty of off road sections including a full ski lodge and even one of my favorite sections where you drive through a “snow tunnel” (be driving the tunnel here). Overall the cars look amazing, the landscape is varied and fun to explore, and being able to drive just about anywhere without many limits while looking stunning make the overall graphics a 10/10

Now how does the game play? Well driving the cars both on controller and with my wheel feel awesome, Horizon has always found a great middle ground of feeling fun to drive and being arcade-y enough to not feel like a sim race in the best of ways and 6 does not disappoint, there is nothing like driving a off road c class car that moves on the dirt in ways you can’t and often don’t want to try to explain then changing to a R class car that hugs the track at 200+ mph that makes you feel the speed as if you are really driving the car. The different camera modes making the experience not only more personalized but for me more realistic sitting in the driver seat on camera driving on my wheel feels like I am really behind the wheel of a car I can only dream of drive while knowing I can get away with things the car would NEVER do in real life. Being able to hook up with my friends and get into cars we will never be able to afford and jump them off of things the would 100% wreck the car and us and just keep going and laughing and having fun is for me one best parts and I will be continuing to do this for years to come.

Alright sound and music, to be transparent as I NEVER play the game off stream I have listened to very little of the music what I have listened to was the songs played when doing the showcase events which I will admit did a good job hyping up the race and the special situation for said race such as racing a mech which was super fun. The cars all sound amazing and the sound of being in a race and going into a tunnel and hearing all the different exhausts from the different cars sound amazing, so from the what I heard playing the game I would give the sound and music a 9/10

Lets talk “story” and game progression, coming into Horizon 6 I knew not to expect a deep story but I also hoped for something that would keep me interested and honestly it didn’t, I often found myself not thinking about much more than getting to my next wristband and getting new cars and races and unlocking legend island. That is not to say that the story was bad it just really wasn’t there for me but the overall game progression I was having a BLAST, the number and verity of races where fun, the different “pr stunts” allowed for fun jumps from the danger signs, tough speed zones requiring a good amount of skill and having the “right car” and drift zones that made me think of Tokyo drift in all the best ways. The “story missions” like delivering food and going on day trips that showed off the landscape and let you see and drive some cars you might not other wise broke up the racing enough to be enjoy able but bite size enough to not over stay their welcome. Searching for the different mascots in the different regions forced me to drive around the map looking for bowls of rice, pieces of shrimp and tea cups was both fun and sometimes frustrating but again never felt like something I had to do as much as something I got to do to earn fun rewards in the games 2 main journals Horizon Legend and Discovery Japan, Horizon Legends is all about doing things to get more wristbands while discovery Japan is just that, finding the different mascots, taking photos of special location at specific seasons which change weekly and doing the different “story missions” all of which have individual rewards and also work towards larger rewards as well, things like new clothing, money and even cars you can only get by completing them giving even more depth make spending your time in the game easy to lose yourself which I have. Overall even with the main story being become a legend which isn’t hard the side activities make up for the short coming and make the game super enjoyable 9/10

Alright final thoughts and feeling for Forza Horizon 6, the game set out to give the fans a solid arcade racing game in a setting that the community had been asking for for years and they did that in SPADES, the racing is fun while not being overly technical, the sound is solid, the story is hit or miss but the side activities kept me coming back and still do with the weekly challenges and the rewards making me continue to come back. Overall Forza Horizon 6 is another great entry in a great series that I am looking forward to see what they do next and I would give the game an overall score of 9/10
